Achia Augustine is a 13-year-old student from a low-income urban community in Uganda. Following the loss of his father in a road traffic accident, Achia’s family has faced severe economic hardship.
Despite these conditions, Achia demonstrates strong academic ability and clear ambition. He aspires to become a medical doctor and is currently performing well in Primary Four. Financial constraints, however, threaten his ability to continue schooling.

Achen Ezerena, 13 and her twin sister, Apio Agnes, live in Masese slum in Jinja, Uganda. They are being raised by a single mother alongside their other siblings after the family fell into severe hardship. Like many families in informal settlements, survival is a daily struggle.
Their mother works tirelessly on the streets of town each day, doing whatever work she can find to provide food for the family. Nakoya Joy Lyton is a bright pupil living in the slums of Jinja. Born in Karamoja—a region affected by chronic poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to education—Nakoya’s early life was shaped by displacement and hardship as her family struggled to survive.
Despite these challenges, Nakoya remains focused, resilient, and hopeful. Having witnessed injustice, vulnerability, and the struggles of marginalized families both in Karamoja and in urban slums, she dreams of becoming a lawyer—so she can one day stand up for the rights of others and give a voice to those who are often unheard.
